The most frequently asked questions: why is there a departure from Saint Léonard? Can I bring my dog on the crossings? Can pregnant women do a crossing? I have health problems? How do I give a gift voucher?…
We are often asked many questions, which is why we have grouped them together in this FAQ. You can also consult our practical information page to prepare for your visit to the Mont-Saint-Michel bay.

These two departures are determined by the tide. When the tide is at neap tide, we must depart from Saint Léonard. We depart from Bec d’Andaine when the tide has a higher coefficient.
Always remember to check the weather forecast before your outing! All conditions in the bay are often extreme (cold, heat).
NO. For several years now, the Mont-Saint-Michel town hall has closed the footbaths. Bring a bottle of water for this purpose. (It can be refilled in the streams).
NO. During a crossing of the Bay, you have three rivers to cross which can reach mid-thigh, as well as mudflats. The crossing is done barefoot or in strapped neoprene shoes. Discover practical info
Yes. You can carry a backpack without risk during our crossings.
NO. The guides and the company are not responsible for falls, broken objects, or losses during the crossings. You must therefore be vigilant with your personal belongings.
Any request for an invoice by an individual is possible if and only if the booking was made in advance via our website (online payment), or by cheque or holiday voucher (by mail). Any payment made on-site cannot be subject to an invoice request.
That’s not a problem. The guide has the list of all participants in their group. Just give your name on the day of the outing before departure directly at the ticket office.
Dogs are accepted on our crossings and walks only if they are kept on a lead. However, they are not allowed on the shuttles that lead to the village. You will therefore need to take the pedestrian path to get to Mont-Saint-Michel. They are also not accepted on the buses we charter at the Mont for crossings including a return by bus. Note: they will be accepted on the shuttle and the bus if you have a transport bag.
We advise participants to arrive at the Mont car parks one hour before the scheduled time of the outing. Why? You will have to take a shuttle that will take you to the foot of Mont-Saint-Michel. The wait for the shuttle can be long. If you arrive at the foot of the Mont after the departure time indicated on the booking voucher, the guide will already be in the bay and will not be able to welcome you. If you are facing a delay, please contact the office which will give you your guide’s phone number. Let them know. We will not be responsible for the delay and will not be able to process a refund.
We advise participants to arrive at the departure point 30 to 45 minutes before the service. Remember to take the summer season into account, between July 15 and August 15. Traffic can be heavy.
We recommend the crossing for children who are in good physical condition and used to walking long distances. From the age of 9, a child can do a crossing, but we advise families to opt for a return by bus. You should know that there are rivers to cross, and in some sections, the water can reach mid-thigh for an adult of 1.70m. If your child is younger, prefer a walk on the shores or a loop circuit starting from Mont-Saint-Michel.
Yes, it is entirely possible to use a baby carrier to enjoy a walk/crossing in the bay in complete safety.
The guide leading the group sets a certain pace related to tide safety. The guide may pick up the pace if necessary.
It depends on the problem… Have you just had surgery, or do you suffer from a pathology in your ankles, knees, or hips, or are you facing a more serious health problem? It is strongly discouraged to do the crossing. In doubt? Don’t hesitate to call us at 02 33 70 83 49.
Unfortunately, no. It is absolutely not recommended for a pregnant woman to do a crossing. You can buy a ticket on our site, but the guide may decide not to let you go. Why? The bay is very slippery and our guides do not want to compromise your safety. A bad fall could be dramatic. Even if you are in good physical condition, we will not take the risk.
NO. Visiting the abbey and Mont-Saint-Michel is a different type of service. It requires half a day to visit everything.
During the crossings, we cover various similar topics: tides, quicksand, the history of the bay, pilgrimages, fauna, and flora. However, each guide has their own specific knowledge. Since the topics to cover are very broad, don’t hesitate to ask the guide questions.
Yes. On all our services, the guide will give you explanations and a demonstration of quicksand. You will have the opportunity to participate.
Yes, you can cancel, but no refund will be made.
We cancel our outings when there is an orange alert, when there is a thunderstorm, and when visibility is less than 500 metres. Please note the guide’s discretion. We may cancel for safety reasons on the day of departure. In these cases, the outing will be fully refunded.
Yes, a refund is possible for any medical problem. You must send us an email at infos@decouvertebaie.com with the medical certificate attached. The refund will be processed in the following days. Without a medical certificate, we will not proceed with any refund.
We invite you to contact us by phone at 02 33 70 83 49, so we can find the best solution to this unexpected situation together.
Any request for a private outing should be made by email to infos@decouvertebaie.com. In the email, describe the project you want to do and on what date. We will then give you the departure time and the price. Also mention a postal address, a mobile number, and the number of participants. We will get back to you as soon as possible. The quote must then be returned to us signed and dated, accompanied by a deposit by cheque or bank transfer (25% of the service).
We offer gift vouchers all year round. The procedure is as follows: Send us an email with a postal address and the name of the recipient. We will send you a quote to return to us signed, accompanied by the payment for the service by cheque. Upon receipt of the signed quote and the cheque, we will send you the booking voucher confirming the purchase and the gift voucher to print by email. If the gift needs to be given quickly, you can pay for the full gift voucher remotely by credit card. The booking voucher confirming the purchase and the gift voucher to print will then be sent to you by email.
